Diabetes is a chronic metabolic disease that requires long-term health management. Scientific care methods not only control blood sugar levels but also prevent complications and improve quality of life. Below are some of my experiences in diabetes care for your reference.
1. A Proper Diet is the Foundation
Dietary control is the core of diabetes management. It's recommended to choose foods with a low glycemic index (GI), such as whole grains, legumes, and vegetables, and avoid refined sugars and high-carbohydrate foods. Each meal should include a balanced combination of protein, dietary fiber, and healthy fats, such as fish, nuts, and olive oil. Also, eat at regular times and in appropriate amounts, avoiding overeating to maintain stable blood sugar levels.
2. Regular Exercise is Essential
Moderate exercise helps improve insulin sensitivity and promotes blood sugar utilization. It's recommended to engage in at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic exercise per week, such as brisk walking, swimming, or cycling, combined with strength training, such as dumbbells or resistance bands. Monitor blood sugar levels before and after exercise to avoid the risk of hypoglycemia.
3. Scientifically Monitor Blood Sugar
Regular blood sugar monitoring is an important basis for adjusting treatment plans. It is recommended to use a home blood glucose meter to regularly monitor fasting and two hours after meals daily, and record the results for your doctor's reference. Additionally, check your HbA1c every three to six months to assess long-term blood sugar control.
4. Medication management requires caution
For patients with diabetes who require medication, they should strictly follow their doctor's instructions for medication or insulin injections and avoid arbitrary dosage increases or decreases. They should also carefully coordinate medication with diet and exercise to avoid hypoglycemia or hyperglycemia.
5. Mental health is equally important
Diabetes management is a long-term process, and patients are prone to anxiety or depression. Maintaining an optimistic attitude and, if necessary, seeking psychological counseling or joining a support group to share experiences and boost confidence are recommended.
In short, diabetes care requires comprehensive management, including diet, exercise, monitoring, medication, and psychological adjustment. Only by adhering to a scientific approach can you effectively control your condition and enjoy a healthy life.
